JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Anthony Joshua will defend his heavyweight world titles against challenger Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on September 15, the Premier League club said in a statement, as reported by Reuters on Tuesday (07/20/2021).
The World Boxing Organization (WBO) required Joshua to defend his title against Ukrainian Usyk after his bout against fellow Briton Tyson Fury was called off when Fury was ordered to fight a rematch with Deontay Wilder.
Joshua, 31, also holds the IBF and WBA world title belts. Initially, he had to face the WBC version of the world champion Fury in Saudi Arabia next month, which was said to be highly anticipated by boxing fans.
Fury will now face Wilder in Las Vegas on October 9 after this month's fight was postponed because Fury tested positive for COVID-19.
Joshua was due to fight Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev at the Spurs Stadium in June last year, but the fight was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joshua, whose record is 24 to 1, beat Pulev at Wembley Arena in December to retain his IBF, WBO and WBA titles, as reported by Antara.
