JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Bjorn Kuipers will be the first Dutch referee to officiate in a European Cup final when England face Italy at Wembley this Sunday, European football's governing body UEFA said, as reported by Reuters.
Kuipers, who started his refereeing career in the Dutch league before becoming an international referee in 2006, will be appearing for his seventh final in UEFA competition.
He previously refereed two Europa League finals and one Champions League final, and was also part of the refereeing team at Euro 2012 and 2016, as well as the last two World Cups.
At this year's Euros, Kuipers has refereed two group stage matches, which are Denmark vs Belgium and Slovakia vs Spain, as well as the quarter-finals between the Czech Republic and Denmark.
Kuipers will be accompanied by two assistant referees from the Netherlands, namely Sander van Roekel and Erwin Zeinstra, while Spanish referee Carlos Del Cerro Grande will be the fourth official.
Bastian Dankert is set to become video assistant referee or VAR, who will work closely with fellow referees from Germany Christian Gittelmann and Marco Fritz, and Pol van Boekel from the Netherlands, as reported by Antara.
