BEIJING, NETRALNEWS.COM - China has urged Pakistan and Turkey to jointly support the transition of power in Afghanistan after the Taliban insurgent forces occupied the capital city of Kabul.

The discussion on the Afghanistan issue was conveyed by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in a telephone conversation with Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, on Wednesday (08/18/2021).

"China and Pakistan should improve communication and coordination on Afghan issues in order to support a smooth transition of power in the country and peace in the region," Wang said, as quoted by the Chinese media on Thursday (08/19/2021).

Wang Yi said the so-called "democratic transformation" in Afghanistan is proving unrealistic as it will only lead to unintended consequences.

"This is a lesson to be learned," said Wang, who is also a member of the Government Advisory Council or at the coordinating minister's level.

He continued that as Afghanistan's neighbors, China and Pakistan desperately need intensive communication and coordination, and play a constructive role in maintaining peace in the region.

He stressed that China and Pakistan should encourage all parties in Afghanistan to increase solidarity and build a new and inclusive government according to the situation in Afghanistan.

Wang Yi also called for Taliban insurgents to disengage from terrorist forces, including the East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), which wants to separate the Xinjiang Autonomous Region from China.

To Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu, Wang hoped the Taliban would fulfill their promise after the Taliban leaders sent a positive signal to the international community, as reported by Antara.
