JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Portugal superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has broken the record for the all-time top men's international goal scorer that was previously held by Iran striker Ali Daei.

As quoted from Sky Sports, Thursday (09/02), Ronaldo managed to score two goals when Portugal won 2-1 over the Republic of Ireland at the Algarve Stadium, Almancil, Portugal, early in the morning Indonesian time.

In this match, Cristiano Ronaldo scored two headers against the Republic of Ireland, which was the 110th and 111th goals of his international career with Portugal.

This victory also helped the Portuguese national team top the standings from Group A of the 2022 World Cup qualifying European zone with 10 points from four matches.

Ronaldo admitted that he was very happy to be able to break this record and get a special moment to have with the Portugal national team.

The 36-year-old continued that the two goals he scored in the final minutes of the match were the result of the belief of his team and supporters until the last time.

"I'm very happy, not only because I broke the record, but for the special moment we had. Two goals at the end, it was quite difficult but I have to appreciate what the team did. We believed until the end, the fans too. I'm very happy, " explained Ronaldo.

The addition of these two goals makes Ronaldo at the top of the list of all-time top men's international goal scorers with 111 goals.

Below him is former Iran national team striker Ali Daei who scored 109 goals, and former Malaysia national team striker Mokhtar Dahari who scored 89 goals.
