JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian government cannot work alone in the effort to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic, but needs synergy between fellow Indonesians by fostering the spirit of mutual cooperation in the midst of society, which is very important to do.
"The concept of gotong royong (mutual cooperation) that we do can ease the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, as in gotong royong there is responsibility, there is a sense of relation with the same fate. We have to develop the spirit of gotong royong again," said Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, also known as Risma, in Jakarta, on Monday (07/26/2021).
Risma said that in the spirit of mutual cooperation, one must believe that there is a force that can solve any serious problems of the nation, but on condition that they do not move to solve the problems individually.
"I believe all kinds of problems of our nation can be solved together as long as there is a spirit of mutual cooperation and do not move independently," she said.

In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the spirit of gotong royong can save and protect others. For people who are undergoing self isolation, they can take part in the mutual cooperation by staying at home.
"Citizens should care about giving food to people who are in self-isolation, so that they don't have to leave the house to buy food, which has the potential to infect others. This is a real example of caring in the spirit of gotong royong that protects and loves others," explained the Minister of Social Affairs.
In fact, history teaches that in the era of the war for independence, where with limited weapons and resources citizens cannot win, but was able to succeed because there is a spirit of mutual cooperation among the nation's people.
"Gotong royong became a force in the war for independence and at that time the people provided food assistance for the fighters. That means, it is impossible for us to cover alone in tackling the pandemic, and there are no problems that cannot be solved by mutual cooperation," said the Minister of Social Affairs.
Risma also gave an example of synergizing between people who have money and people who have the ability to cook, and that can be collaborated into a movement to help other people, such as opening public kitchens.
"Just like Person A has money, Person B can cook and Person C has a spirit of mutual cooperation and cares about sharing, if they are synergized, it will be an extraordinary power. So there is no need to be afraid that this nation will collapse as long as there is a spirit of mutual cooperation and care for others," she added.
