JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian actor Jerome Kurnia says the development of Indonesia's film industry follows the cultural movements, while also bringing up issues that exist in society.

A film also serves to convey messages that are relevant in people's lives at that time.

"We have to be able to keep up with the times. Sometimes we even have to be a step ahead before it's too late," Jerome said at the Ideafest 2021 creative festival online press conference, on Thursday (10/28/2021).

Jerome, who played a role in the film "A World Without," said the film industry is a forum that houses various people from different backgrounds to present creative stories. The same issue when raised by two directors from different backgrounds will produce works with certain characteristics with two varying points of view.

The COVID-19 pandemic also had an impact on the film industry, which had been stopped as the production process and screenings in theaters had to be postponed to prevent the spreading of the coronavirus. On the other hand, there are new opportunities to create works through the OTT platform where the audience can enjoy the show without having to leave the house.

"Now there are many new opportunities. In the past, films had to wait for the time when they were shown in theaters, but now there are many streaming platforms," Jerome said in response to the current conditions in the domestic film industry.

Jerome also recently starred in a film directed by Nia Dinata which aired on the Netflix platform. The film, "A World Without," which premiered on October 14, has a setting in 2030, and tells the story of three friends who join The Light, an organization that promises a good future for its members. However, the organization turns out to be surrounded by mystery.

Before starring in "A World Without", Jerome Kurnia successfully stole the attention of fans through his acting in the film "Bumi Manusia". He also starred in the film "Penyalin Cahaya," which made its global premiere at the 2021 Busan International Film Festival, as reported by Antara.
