La Liga Set to Scrutinize Griezmann-Saul Potential Swap Deal

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Spain's La Liga is reported to be investigating a planned swap deal between Barcelona's Antoine Griezmann and Atletico Madrid's Saul Niguez.
According to a report by Marca, the Spanish League actually does not have a player exchange rule. Each transfer must be made independently with a separate valuation.
Thus, to make sure that Barcelona do not conduct any financial trickery, the league will keep an eye on the progress of the deal between Barca and Atletico.
The swap deal development were disclosed by Radio Marca and El Partidazo de COPE on Friday (07/26/2021). Basically, if the proceeds from selling Griezmann are less than 72 million euros (around IDR1.23 trillion), then Barcelona will certainly suffer a loss.
However, Barcelona are ready to release the French striker in order to obtain fresh funds in their efforts to re-sign Lionel Messi with a new contract.
Even if Griezmann leaves the club, Barcelona is expected to still have to sell other players in the coming weeks. If not, La Liga is prepared to reject Messi's contract extension request, as Barcelona's current financial situation cannot meet Messi's salary demands.
Messi is reportedly ready to take a 50 percent pay cut. However, this has not been confirmed by the club. Barcelona has already landed two top strikers in Memphis Depay and Sergio Aguero, who also earn significant salaries, as reported by Antara.
