JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information has shared several tips for the public to protect and prevent their personal data from being accidentally shared on social media, following the potential for data leak from the trend of using the “Add Yours” feature on Instagram.

"First, the public can minimize the sharing of personal data by not spreading information that other people don't need to know,” spokesperson for the Ministry of Communication and Information, Dedy Permadi, said to ANTARA, on Wednesday (11/24/2021).

There is also information that should not be shared in public, including financial information, Population Identification Number (NIK), name of biological mother, date of birth, or other information related to privacy such as account access, e-mail accounts, and social media accounts.

These data are very vulnerable to misuse and can harm the data owner if it falls into the hands of irresponsible parties, considering that this type of data is often used to validate or register for services.

The second tip is to make sure you don't reveal your personal data to unauthorized parties.

This means that the data owner does not share their data arbitrarily, for example, to followers on social media that they don't necessarily know well.

Another tip is that when sharing data, data owners must be aware of the consequences or impact of sharing their data.

When thinking about consequences, it means that data owners must weigh whether there is more benefit or harm when sharing the information.

In order to ensure data security, especially in the digital era as it is today, the owner of personal data must carefully examine the terms and conditions of an application or site, to transactions involving data submission.
