JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Manuel Locatelli has joined Italian Serie A giant Juventus from Sassuolo on loan.

The Italian national team midfielder became one of the key players in bringing his country to winning the 2020 European Cup (Euro) championship.

Juventus will reportedly have to spend 37.5 million euros (around IDR592 billion), including additional fees, for the deal which includes an obligation to make the loan move permanent at the end of the 2022-23 season.

"Manuel is a player of high quality and capable of controlling a midfield, which few players have. The great strides he has made in the top flight, after his spell at Atalanta and the Milan youth team only confirms this," Juventus said in an official statement, as quoted by Reuters, on Wednesday (08/18/2021).

The 23-year-old midfielder scored twice in Italy's 3-0 group stage win over Switzerland to help secure a place in the last 16 before guiding Italy to Euro 2020 final.

He has scored three goals for the Italian national team in 15 appearances.

Juventus had a difficult period last season, with the reigning champions finishing fourth under coach Andrea Pirlo.

Now the Italian giants are trying to restore glory in the domestic competition by reappointing coach Massimiliano Allegri.

Juventus will play their first match in Serie A in the 2021-22 Serie A season by facing Udinese.
