Gov‘t Extends Talks with Freeport until January 2018

Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignatius Jonan

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Ignatius Jonan said the government has extended the negotiations with Freeport with four points to be discussed; the extension of Freeport's operating license at the Grasberg Mine, long-term investment stability, smelter development and divestment of shares.

"So this will be extended for 3 months to be completed," said Jonan, Monday (10/9/2017), in Senayan, Jakarta.

During these three months, the government and Freeport will try to reach the meeting point, especially about the stock divestment scheme. Jonan is optimistic that everything can be completed in three months.

"Fivty one percent of the shares are when the devastation, about how will be the schedule, how much will the price, it takes three months," he said.

In order for Freeport's operations and production operations at the Grasberg Mine to be undisturbed during the negotiation process, the government also extended the Freeport Mining Business Permit (IUPK) for three months.

Thus, Freeport could continue exporting copper concentrate until January 2018. "IUPK is also extended for three months," said Jonan. `

The government finally decided to extend the negotiations with Freeport for three months until January 10, 2018 so everything will be settled properly.
