PT Asuransi Sinar Mas (ASM) conducts financial literacy socialization activity for farmers in Rumoong Bawah Village, Amurang in South Minahasa District, North Sulawesi
MINAHASA SELATAN, NNC - PT Asuransi Sinar Mas (ASM) conducts financial literacy socialization activity for farmers in Rumoong Bawah Village, Amurang in South Minahasa District, North Sulawesi. Sinar Mas Insurance Director Dumasi M M. Samosir said farmers are one of the targets of Sinar Mas' financial literacy and inclusion program in 2018.
In addition to farmers, financial literacy is also given to students, SMEs (small and medium-sized micro businesses) and santris.
"We want farmers to also know about how to plan and manage finances well and know the tools to manage finances, which is insurance," Dumasi said in a written statement in Jakarta on Monday, Oct 22.
Dumasi says, financial literacy by farmers in North Sulawesi Province was done to coinciding with the month of Financial Inclusion proclaimed by the Financial Services Authority (OJK) every October and Insurance Day on October 18.
Meanwhile, the Economic and Development Assistant to the South Minahasa District Regional Secretary, Decky E Keintjem, who read the welcoming speech of South Minahasa Regent, expressed his appreciation to ASM for holding this literacy activity.
Decky said insurance is a form of protection. Financial literacy is considered very important because the level of public awareness in Indonesia tends to be low.
"We hope farmers can take advantage of this excellent opportunity to add insight for managing finances," he said.
Like its previous financial literacy activity, literacy participants also received the protection of Simas Petani Micro Insurance Card, which is a 24-hour protection insurance accident against the risk of death and permanent disability caused by accidents and provides daily cash compensation for dengue fever.
Some 2,000 farmers in Amurang receive Simas Petani insurance protection. The provision of microinsurance protection is intended so that after being educated, participants can immediately understand the form and benefits of financial protection through insurance. This is also to support increased financial inclusion.
ASM throughout 2017 has carried out literacy in several cities including in Laguboti-Balige City (North Sumatra), Merauke (Papua), Brebes, Humbang Hasundutan District (North Sumatra), Bukittinggi and Padang (West Sumatra), Mataram (West Nusa Tenggara) and Solor Island (East Nusa Tenggara).
