Tourism Minister: AirNav Improves Flight Capacity in Indonesia (kemenpar)

TANGERANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya has appreciated AirNav as a state-owned navigational service provider in Indonesia to increase the capacity of flights to the country.

The portion of tourists who come to Indonesia through air transportation is around 75 percent.

To that end, Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya has again conducted a work visit in the form of a Airlines Roadshow to review developments with elements of 3A (Authorities - Airports & Air Navigation-Airlines) in 2019. The goal is to ensure supporting infrastructure is ready to push the target of increasing tourist arrivals (foreign tourists) by air.

"Air connectivity is the key to success in bringing in foreign tourists, since 75 percemt of foreign tourists entering Indonesia use air transportation, while the remainder go by sea and cross-border land," Arief Yahya said.

Arief also explained that the growth of foreign tourists rose 40 percent via air in the period 2015-2018. This was also obtained as a result of efforts to encourage airports and airlines to increase their capacity.

Apart from also considering the density of the main airports that are aimed at foreign tourists, since 2016 the Ministry of Tourism has encouraged airlines to open direct flights to "Secondary Airports" which have international airport status.

"Thank you to airlines and airports that have increased their international seat capacity in the 2015-2018 period, by 23 percent. So that foreign tourists visit by air can grow by almost 40 percent in the same period, "said Menpar.

The Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya also conveyed the government's current target is to reach 20 million foreign tourists. As well as stimulus or incentive programs prepared by the Ministry of Tourism to improve air connectivity and suffice seats capacity.

"We want to find a joint solution to various problems of air connectivity, especially international routes, to secure the target of 20 million foreign tourists visiting in 2019," said Arief Yahya.

Director of AirNav Novie Riyanto explained the role of AirNav in encouraging an increase in the number of tourists entering Indonesia. Novie said that the increase in navigation services was carried out among others at the Pratama Lombok branch to support tourism development in Mandalika.

"For the development of tourism in Bromo, it will be assisted by an increase in Juanda Airport runway capacity and an increase in the instrument procedure (PBN) in the Surabaya Branch," said Novie.

For the development of Lake Toba tourism, said Novie Riyanto, AirNav Medan Branch will form an ATFM unit using the CHRONOS slot management application, and rejuvenate flight communication equipment.

"In the Siborong-borong unit as the main access to Lake Toba we will replace DVOR, make instrument flights, and build new tower buildings," he concluded.
