JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia President Joko Widodo has called for infrastructure projects to be connected to tourist areas in each region so that the tourism sector could further promote people's welfare more evenly.

President Joko Widodo, also known as Jokowi, in the Inauguration of the Opening of the National Development Planning Meeting (Musrenbangnas) in 2019, asked the governors, mayors, and staff to immediately complete infrastructure projects evenly on toll roads, ports, airports.

"Soon the provinces, districts, cities connect the points in their respective places. Without it, no region can enjoy economic growth. Connect with industrial areas, tourism, with small industrial centers, with production centers both agricultural or plantation, "said the President.

President Jokowi said, connecting the centers of economic growth with tourist areas would make the regions grow faster.

That said, it was the duty of regional governments to understand the characteristics of their respective regions.

"If it cannot be done, never dream (Indonesia) will be in the fifth, fourth, (the country with the largest economy) in the world," he said.

Indonesia is called by President Jokowi as a big opportunity to become the top five countries with the world's strongest economy, and even become the top four of the world's strongest economies in 2045 but to make this happen is not an easy thing.

A strong country economy must also be supported by an economy in a region that is also strong. Equitable infrastructure is intended to foster the potential for economic improvement in areas that previously seemed untouched.

The President hopes that the economic resource centers in the regions can be connected with the existence of a number of infrastructure built by the central government. With the connection of industrial and tourism centers, the pulse of the regional economy will be even stronger.

"Without it, the regions will not be able to enjoy the name of economic growth," Jokowi said.

During the event, present officials and Ministers of the Working Cabinet included the Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya and regional heads from all over Indonesia.

Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya said the basic principle of tourism requires the support of other sectors to develop, so infrastructure support as instructed by the President is indeed a necessity.

"Kemenpar is ready to support efforts to develop tourist destinations in the regions according to what was instructed by President Jokowi," he said.
