TANGERANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - Grab and Sinar Mas Land have announced the launching of an innovative mobility solution test project named GrabWheels. This service is in the form of eco-friendly electric scooters and can be used in several locations in BSD City during the trial period which lasts until mid-2019.

Ongki Kurniawan, Executive Director of Grab Indonesia, said Grab always strives to provide services using a hyperlocal approach or according to the needs of local communities that can facilitate daily life. Working closely with Sinar Mas Land, the company presents GrabWheels, the first electric scooter service in Indonesia.

"Hopefully, GrabWheels can be an innovative mobility solution that is easy to use and environmentally friendly, and provides new experiences for people who live in smart city areas such as BSD City," Ongki said on Thursday (05/09/2019).

Meanwhile, Irawan Harahap, Digital Hub Project Leader at Sinar Mas Land, said that as a pioneer of integrated smart digital city, BSD City is committed to continuously developing digital infrastructure and facilities to support life and business in the modern city.

"GrabWheels service will help strengthen an integrated and innovative transportation system in the BSD City area. We believe this pilot project with Grab is a good start in providing a choice of environmentally friendly transportation services that are in line with our vision of ensuring a healthy lifestyle for the community," he said.

Furthermore, he explained, innovation in transportation technology was the beginning of joint research conducted by Sinar Mas Land with Grab to integrate various modes of public transportation.

Multimodal-based transportation solutions have been carried out in BSD City, ranging from long-distance transportation by commuter line bus and electric train to short distance transportation with BSD Link shuttle bus and now equipped with GrabWheels electric scooter.

"This is part of the development of the BSD City area into an integrated smart digital city. This development is especially actualized through the development of the Digital Hub as a forum for gathering digital communities," he said.

For information, Digital Hub has an area of 25.86 Ha located in the southern part of BSD City's Green Office Park, has the potential to become a technology center equivalent to Silicon Valley as in the United States.

A number of educational institutions in the field of coding have also been present at BSD City such as Apple Developer Academy, Binar Academy, Techpolitan, Purwadhika, Grab Innovation Lab, Prasetya Mulya, IULI to Unika Atma Jaya.

The existence of these institutions is useful to supply developers to a number of companies that already exist in BSD City such as Unilever, a multinational company, and startup companies and tech companies in the region. With a good built environment, BSD City was developed to become a conducive digital talent pool and digital economic area.

Grab and Sinar Mas Land hope that the presence of GrabWheels services will be able to further strengthen BSD City's position as the first integrated smart digital city in Indonesia.
