Business Activities Return to Normal at Pasar Tanah Abang

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Buying and selling activities at the Wholesale Center of Tanah Abang Market are gradually normal and have increased again as before the riots on May 22.

"Alhamdulillah, today the buyers have started a lot. The turnover has also increased," said Puji, a male Muslim fashion seller in Blok A Tanah Abang Market, Jakarta, Saturday (05/25/2019).

Puji said that until his shop was closed on Saturday afternoon, he had already earned a turnover of around Rp. 45 million, more than he had received on Friday (24/5).

Even though it increases, the turnover he earns should be more than the turnover he usually gets on every weekend, especially when approaching Eid.

"It should be more because of the weekend, especially before Eid," he added.

In line with Puji, the Muslim clothing seller, Hery, also felt grateful that her turnover had even increased compared to yesterday or a normal day before the riots on May 22.

"Today has a turnover of IDR 70 million, more than yesterday or weekdays," he said while welcoming the buyers in his shop.

The seller and buyer claimed they were no longer worried about the security conditions in Tanah Abang Market following the riots that occurred on May 22 to 23 which caused the market to close.

"No, I'm not worried anymore. Because before I arrived, I read in the newspaper that the conditions were safe. So I came here," said Wulan, a buyer from Depok, reported by Antara.

The largest wholesale center in Southeast Asia was closed for two days following riots on May 22 to 23.

The market was reopened on Friday (24/5) and operates until around 16.00 West Indonesia Time, especially in Block A Tanah Abang Market, although there are plans to open only half a day due to fears of further riots.
