BI Survey: Consumer Confidence Remains Good in May

Bank Indonesia (special)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Bank Indonesia (BI) Consumer Survey in May 2019 indicated that consumer optimism remained good.

This was reflected in the May 2019 Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) of 128.2, a slight increase compared to the previous month's IKK of 128.1.

Consumer optimism that remained good was driven by the increase in the Current Economic Condition Index (IKE), especially the perception of employment availability and the purchase of durable goods. In addition, consumer expectations for economic conditions going forward remain strong despite being lower than the previous month.

"This is influenced by the decline in expectations of income and business activities in the next 6 months," said BI Executive Director of Communication Onny Widjarnako in his official statement in Jakarta on Wednesday (06/12/2019).

The survey results also indicate price pressures in the next six months (November 2019) are expected to increase. This increase was mainly influenced by consumer demand for goods and services which is expected to increase towards the end of the year.
