Transjakarta Set to Open Five New Routes to Boost Passenger Growth (transjakarta)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) Operations Director David Joseph says Transjakarta plans on adding five new routes each month.

He said the plan to open five new routes each monthwas part of the company's strategy in reaching the target of one million passengers per day. Until now, the number of Transjakarta passengers per day has reached around 800,000 people, and is heading towards 900,000.

"The point is we have to push to increase the number of passengers to the first target of 900,000 passengers per day over the next one-two months. Once we reach 900,000, we will be close to reaching one million passengers" he said in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/18/2019).

In addition to continuing to open new routes, he said Transjakarta will also add a number of small buses from the original 904 units to 1,441 units starting next month until next October.

"With that (the addition of the number of buses and new routes), surely the number of passengers will rise. Later there will be a total of 93 additional routes, according to the letter from the Transportation Department (Dishub), "he said.

In addition, Daud also said that the integration of Transjakarta with Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) transportation greatly helped achieve the target of one million passengers per day.

"It is very helpful, before there is an MRT the number of passengers is around 700,000 (per day) after integrating with the MRT to 800,000," he added.

For LRT, he said there are already around 50 Transjakarta bus units that are integrated and it is targeting to add one to two more routes in July 2019.
