Ministry of Industry Supports E-Commerce in Creating New Entrepreneurs

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the growth of the Small and Medium Industries (SMI/IKM) and new entrepreneurs in the country. One of the efforts made is to support e-commerce companies in empowering leading starters in this sector.

"We hope that e-commerce will become a gateway for IKM players to carry out transformation by using digital promotional tools, digital information systems, and digital management of customer relations as well," said Secretary of the Directorate General of Small and Medium Industries (IKMA) at the Ministry of Industry, Eddy Siswanto.

Eddy said the Ministry of industry had collaborated with e-commerce platform Blibli.com in holding a creativepreneur competition, The Big Start Season 4. The collaboration between the Ministry of Industry and Blibli.com is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of the country's industry in welcoming the fourth industrial revolution era.

"We give the greatest appreciation to Blibli.com who have worked hand in hand with the Directorate General of IKMA to encourage the development of the business of fellow Small and Medium Industry players in Indonesia," he said.

The Ministry of Industry's Director General of Small and Medium Industries (IKMA) Gati Wibawaningsih said, The Big Start Season 4 event which carries the theme "Local Goes Global Through Digital" is in line with national priorities of the Ministry of Industry in empowering SMIs to increase exports through the use of digital technology .

"In the digital era like now, the transition from conventional buying and selling to buying and selling online is growing. Not only for products in the form of goods, even services. Therefore we see the e-commerce industry promising enormous market potential, "he explained.

Gati added, to help IKM players in seizing opportunities while facing challenges when the emergence of many e-commerce, since 2017, the Ministry of Industry has launched an e-Smart IKM program involving the digital marketplaces in the country as one of the supporting infrastructure.

"Some of the activities carried out in this program are e-Smart IKM workshops, coaching as a follow-up workshop, technical guidance to SMIs, as well as mentoring digital marketer experts to assist marketing," she explained.
