BADUNG, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya hopes that the 2019 Bali Beyond & Travel Fair (BBTF) can be global and grow in line with the MATTA Fair in Malaysia and ITB Asia in Singapore.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Tourism while attending the Welcome Dinner and Opening Ceremony of Bali Beyond & Travel Fair 2019 at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana, Bali, on Wednesday (6/26/2019).

"BBTF has been regarded as the leading exhibition in Indonesia. In the future, I hope BBTF can develop as one of the main international tourism exhibitions in the region, with the same status as MATTA Fair in Malaysia and ITB Asia in Singapore. It can even be a travel exhibition the biggest in the world such as ITB Berlin and WTM London, "said the Menpar.

Harapan Arief Yahya is not without reason, especially the international travel and tourism exhibition organized by the Association of Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) in Bali this year has entered its 6th year of implementation.

With the theme Journey to Sustainable Tourism, BBTF 2019 held from June 26-28, 2019 at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) presented 232 sellers and 303 buyers from 46 countries with estimated transactions reaching Rp9.06 trillion. The composition of the biggest buyers, 101 came from the West and East Europe zones. For the Middle East zone there are 28 buyers. Buyers from ASEAN were 67, then 27 buyers came from Australia and New Zealand.

The number of sellers and buyers increased from last year. At BBTF 2018, the transaction value generated was around Rp.7.71 trillion with 244 sellers and 320 buyers from 41 countries. There were 61 buyers from Eastern and Western European countries. While from the ASEAN region countries that participated as many as 45 buyers, then India had 23 buyers. Australia and New Zealand slots filled 22 buyers and 72 trade buyers.

"BBTF offers many opportunities. Great potential. There was a significant increase in participants. We hope that all industries can take advantage of this momentum, "said Committee Chairman of the BBTF 2019, I Ketut Ardana.

The BBTF 2019 participants came from various backgrounds in the tourism industry. The composition consists of hotels and resorts, travel agents, to the government. There is also a tourist attraction, managers of tourist destinations, airlines, and others.

The implementation of BBTF is believed by Menpar not only to promote Bali as a world-class tourist destination, but also to promote other tourist destinations in Indonesia.

"Finally, later tourists will enjoy more diverse attractions in addition to BBTF also bring economic benefits from tourism activities that will be distributed to areas outside Bali," explained the Menpar.

Regarding the theme of BBTF 2019, Menpar explained that "sustainable tourism" has become a trend in recent years. Tourism development must consider three factors including the environment, community and economy.

With regard to these principles, the Ministry of Tourism has conducted three programs, namely the Sustainable Tourism Destination (STD) through the Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA), the Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO), and the Sustainable Tourism Certificate (STC), which focuses on 10 Destinations Priority Tourism.

"In Bali, we have also established the Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO) in Sanur, in collaboration with Bali's Udayana University, supported by UNWTO," explained the Menpar.

During this time the tourism sector is the biggest contributor to the economy of Bali. The number of international tourist arrivals to Bali in 2018 was recorded at 6 million, an increase of 6.7 percent and 9.8 million domestic tourists, an increase of 11.7 percent compared to 2017.
