JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Rupiah exchange rate at the interbank level in Jakarta is closed higher on Thursday afternoon following market intervention by Bank Indonesia (BI). The rupiah strengthened by 21 points or 0.15 percent to IDR 14,238 per US dollar from the previous position of IDR 14,259 per dollar.
"Bank Indonesia continues to intervene through trading in foreign exchange and bonds on the DNDF market, and the government, through the finance minister, continues to provide positive information for the domestic economy which is actually quite good compared to the economies of other countries," said President Director of Garuda Berjangka Ibrahim Assuaibi in Jakarta, Thursday (8/29/2019).
He said the collaboration between Bank Indonesia and the government had succeeded in stabilizing the rupiah, which was closely monitored.
"So don't be surprised if it weakens slightly, despite the significant external storm," Ibrahim said, as reported by Antara.
In the morning, the rupiah was opened gaining to IDR 14,250 per dollar. Throughout the day, the rupiah moved in the range of IDR 14,237 to IDR 14,263 per dollar.
Meanwhile, Bank Indonesia's middle rate on Thursday showed that the rupiah strengthened to IDR 14,254 per dollar from the previous position of IDR 14,263 a dollar.
