Soekarno-Hatta Runway 3 Set to be Operable by November

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Transportation targets the 3,000-meter Runway 3 of the Soekarno Hatta International Airport in Cengkareng, Jakarta, to be operational by November 2019.

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said Runway 3 has been operating for a month, and has been going well. However, operation of the runway is limited to 2500 x 45 meters, and limited to Citilink aircraft with Boeing 737 and Airbus qualifications.

"When I was the Managing Director of PT AP II Soekarno Hatta, the movement was 75, now it is 81 every one hour. If later Runway 3 operates with a length of 3000 m, take off landing can be approximately 100 per hour," explained the Minister.

Budi continued that the construction of Runway, which is the direction of Indonesian President Joko Widodo, could create savings of up to IDR 75 million calculated from the amount of fuel.

Cost Efficiency of IDR75 Million

In line with the Minister of Transportation, Managing Director of PT Angkasa Pura II M. Awaluddin explained that from the simulation conducted by the airline in August, combustion of aircraft fuel could be reduced to 1,300 pounds IDR70 million-75 million if calculated in rupiah because the aircraft did not need to wait longer to reach the apron after landing.

"The simulations of airline operation on August 15 showed that there was an airline fuel savings because there was no need for holding.
