Indonesia's Manufacturing Industry Continues Expansion, albeit Slower (kemenperin)

JAKARTA, NETALNEWS.COM - The performance of the manufacturing sector in the third quarter of 2019 was indicated to be expansive, although at a slower rate compared to the previous quarter. This was conveyed by Bank Indonesia on Thursday (10/10/2019).

The manufacturing sector's performance is reflected in the Bank Indonesia Prompt Manufacturing Index (PMI) of 52.04 percent in the third quarter of 2019, slightly lower than 52.66 percent in the previous quarter.

The expansion phase occurred in almost all subsectors, but a slowdown was observed in the Food, Beverage & Tobacco sub-sector, as well as Textiles, Leather Goods & Footwear sector.

On the other hand, the contraction that has occurred in Timber Goods and Other Forest Products since the last quarter is seen to continue in the third quarter of this year.

The slowdown in business expansion is predicted to continue in the fourth quarter of 2019. This is also reflected in the forecast for PMI-BI in the fourth quarter of 2019 of 51.90%, which is lower than the previous quarter.

Slowing business expansion is predicted to occur in several sub-sectors such as the Textile Industry, Leather Goods and Footwear; Paper and Printing Industry; Fertilizer, Chemical and Rubber Industry, and Cement and Non-Metallic Goods Industry.
