JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Jabodetabek (Greater Jakarta) Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) says that the use of public transportation in the Greater Jakarta area has only reached 30 percent for movement or mobilization from one place to another in the region.
"BPTJ expects public usage of public transportation for mobilization to reach 60 percent. However, it has only reached 30 percent," said head of BPTJ Bambang Prihartono during a public discussion on Megapolitan Transportation Management in Pecenongan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (11/14/2019).
Bambang said the maximum usage of public transportation in Greater Jakarta has not been achieved due to obstacles such as expensive costs long travel times.
In addition, there is a paradigm shift among the public about traffic congestions being the new norm in Greater Jakarta.
"This paradigm should be changed, we try to provide public transportation services with easy accessibility and economical prices," said Bambang.
However, he acknowledged that the capacity of public transportation must be enlarged, given that public mobilization continues to increase in the Greater Jakarta area, from 47.5 million/day in 2015 to 88 million/day in 2019.
"Therefore, assistance from the private sector is needed. The government and the private sector must work together, as the current public transportation usage only reaches 8 million/day," he said.
Therefore, Bambang supports private companies that provide public transportation services such as online motorcycle taxis to meet the transportation needs of the public in the Greater Jakarta area.
