BOGOR, NETRALNEWS.COM - The coronavirus or Covid-19 pandemic has affected all sectors, including the tourism sector.
Indonesia President Joko Widodo considered that the tourism sector was the sector most significantly affected by Covid-19.
"We know the most severe impact of Covid-19 is felt and first felt in the tourism sector. These include hotels, restaurants, and also handicraft businesses. Therefore, the steps on mitigation needs to be done as soon as possible," the President said in his introduction.
The mitigation that needs to be done immediately are divided into three steps. First, the social protection program for workers who work in the tourism sector. The President requested that the program really be ensured to operate and reach the target.
"The second is the reallocation of the existing budget. From the Ministry of Tourism, it should be directed towards labor-intensive program for workers engaged in tourism sector," he added.
Then the third, the President requested that his staff prepare economic stimulus for businesses in the tourism sector and the creative economy. The President believes that these mitigation steps must be conducted so that those engaging in the tourism sector can survive and not make layoffs (termination of employment) on a large scale.
The President believes that the sluggishness of the tourism sector due to the coronavirus pandemic will only last until the end of the year. For this reason, an attitude of optimism must continue to be built so that the tourism sector can take advantage of the rising momentum as soon as the downturn ends.
"I believe this is only until the end of the year. Next year there will be a boom in tourism. Everyone wants to go out, everyone wants to enjoy the beauty that is in the regions that have tourism sites. Therefore, that optimism must continue to be raised, "he said.
