JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Perum Bulog is ready to distribute social assistance aid worth IDR2 billion to the lower classes directly affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. The aid include basic staple needs, free food, and assistance to several hospitals, such as masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Budi Waseso, Director of Perum BULOG, said the distribution of social aid through thrugh the social service program called "53rdekah, 53mbako and 53that" in the framework of the 53rd anniversary of Bulog which fell on May 10, 2020 was conducted by involving local food stalls in distributing free food among other.
"This social service activity is expected to ease the burden on people directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and as a form of BULOG's presence and concern for this disaster," Budi said in Jakarta, on Friday (05/08/2020).
The free food program is carried out by empowering 53 food stalls for five days by providing free food and drink to be taken home by low-income people, such as motorcycle taxi drivers and cleaners.
The culmination of the Bulog Anniversary event will take place on May 11, 2020. However, social activities have been running since Wednesday (6/5) at a number of hospitals to distribute masks and PPE equipment intended for doctors and other medical workers.
Provision of PPE and masks will be handed over to six hospitals specifically handling COVID-19 patients in Jakarta.
Furthermore, the provision of food packages will be given to the people directly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is focused on online motorcycle taxis, people who are laid off, the poor, workers, cleaning services, and security guards/drivers in the Bulog environment.
