TANGERANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - As part of the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, Sinar Mas Land, through Rumah Pintar BSD City, held a National Lecture through WhatsApp messaging application on problem-based learning that summarizes science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM).
A total of 250 participants from educators throughout Indonesia who are members of the Gerakan Sekolah Menyenangkan (GSM) community participated in the online lecture. This online learning was delivered by Heny Kristiani and Febri Widiana Ratri, teachers from one of the Sinar Mas Land CSR-guided GSM reference school, SMPN 20 Tangerang Selatan.
Heny Kristiani explained that STEAM is a new approach in the world of education by integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics with processes that focus on solving real problems in daily life and professional scope.
"Developed countries take this approach by providing stimulation to children who can stimulate the ability to reason (higher order thinking skills) to pursue the value of PISA (Program for International Student Assessment)," she explained.
Heny considered that STEAM is a revolution in education to face this pandemic, which makes the learning process at school moved to homes. This situation increases the pressure on students.
With this new learning method, she continued, teachers can teach with an active learning approach, which collaborates on various subjects. As a result, the learning process is fun and students can have 21st century skills.
CSR Department Head of BSD City at Sinar Mas Land Maria Chatarina said on Monday (06/23/2020) that Rumah Pintar BSD City continues to strengthen GSM schools by increasing the skills of the teachers through a number of simple approaches so that the government policy on freedom to learn can be applied well.
Furthermore, this method prepares Gen Z children to compete in the future. "We also hope the progress of Sinar Mas Land in the world of education through Rumah Pintar BSD City can answer the market needs in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0."
The online lecture on STEAM was held in the framework of the 6th Sinar Mas Land Education Festival this year. Previously, there were also some online education with the theme of tips and tricks for writing essays that were both cool to read and in accordance with the theme, how to write narratives and arguments in the paper, character growth during the Covid-19 pandemic, and techniques for making interesting vlog videos.
The topic was presented by professionals in related fields, such as Agatha Pertiwi (freelance editor and translator from the Via Dolorosa Language Service consultant), Kevin Sucianto (social media strategist at Otro Design & Co. and media copywriter at Into The Light Indonesia), Jetty Maynur (Principle of MIN 3 South Tangerang), and Dewi Utari (video content editor, CSR Sinar Mas Land BSD City).
