TANGERANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - Sinar Mas Land has held the 17th BSD City Green Festival in order to commemorate World Environment Day on June 5. The festival is held online and open to the public. The activity aims to motivate people to care more about the environment by taking concrete actions. This year's BSD City Green Festival took the theme of Empowering Communities in Developing Food Security.
The event was present in the form of a campaign that was full of education to the community to be able to meet food needs independently, especially in dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic through vegetable cultivation, food processing, and household waste utilization. Education was provided by Supendi Akbar, an education practitioner and environmental activist.
The series of events of the 17th BSD City Green Festival began on May 12, 2020, with the socialization of activities continued with a variety of environmental education titled Food Security (May 18, 2020), Utilization of Household Waste (June 2, 2020), Nurseries and Planting (June 8, 2020), and Organic Fertilizer Manufacturing (June 15, 2020). After that, there was the aid of dispensing odor remover drugs to the South Tangerang City Environmental Agency, especially for the Cipeucang landfill.
The festival was also held internally with a webinar themed 'Wise in Handling Waste through the Utilization of Individual Waste', specifically for Sinar Mas Land employees and other Sinar Mas business pillars. The Tree Planting Ceremony ceremony and various environmental activities carried out by Green Festival participants and Sinar Mas Land employees, as well as employees of the Sinar Mas business pillar both in the neighborhood and work place, takes place virtually and can be witnessed through the Zoom application by all participants.
This time, the Green Festival was enlivened by a musical performance by Dik Doank, which will bring the song "Rumahku Surgaku". The entire event was conducted online to get around the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic.
"Consistently, Sinar Mas Land through PT BSD continues to strive to educate the public to be wise in managing household waste. Through various environmental activities, including the 17th Green Festival that we have organized this time, we want the communities to be actively involved in environmental conservation, including by reducing waste production, starting with oneself and family as the smallest part of the community. Therefore, we continuously socialize and educate the public, ranging from students, educators and community leaders, even to our own employees," said Monik William.
Tangerang Regent A. Zaki Iskandar said his office would like to thank Sinar Mas Land for providing environmental corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities through the Green Festival. He considered this activity has provided environmental education to the people of Tangerang Regency and surrounding areas.
The event was also responded positively by Airin Rachmi Diany, Mayor of South Tangerang. According to Airin, the Green Festival is an excellent activity and needs to be supported. She also hopes that there will be more parties who are concerned with environmental development efforts. "Thank you to PT BSD and Sinar Mas Land who contributed a lot to the efforts to achieve development in the environmental, social, cultural and other fields," Airin said.
Head of the Corporate Affairs Division at Sinar Mas Land Dony Martadisata said he hoped that the Green Festival activities initiated by the Sinar Mas Land CSR team through PT BSD would be proof of the company's sincerity, commitment and concern for environmental preservation.
He also hopes that all participants of the event will become environmental activists who inspire the wider community to do real work for environmental preservation and produce food security in the family.
