JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Citi Foundation is distributing aid worth more than IDR2 billion (US $150,000) for COVID-19 relief efforts. The aid will be distributed through HOPE worldwide Indonesia to several regions in Indonesia. These include Jakarta, Tangerang, Semarang, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan and Denpasar.
Citi Indonesia's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Batara Sianturi said: "Citi has an unwavering commitment to serving the community. In this challenging times, we want to take an active role in helping to overcome this pandemic, especially for vulnerable and underprivileged communities as well as health workers who are at the forefront. We will continue to demonstrate Citi's values through our philanthropic efforts and core business activities to provide a sustainable impact on those who need it."
Selected as the party delivering the aid is HOPE worldwide Indonesia. A member of HOPE worldwide, this institution focuses on efforts to improve the welfare of the community as well as various post-disaster management efforts.
The aid from Citibank will be distributed in the form of 3,000 packages of food and nutrition, 1,000 packages of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and 8 units of hand washing units. In addition, there will be a series of healthy and clean lifestyle training to minimize the impact of the spreading of COVID-19 coronavirus.
HOPE worldwide Indonesia Country Director Lily Salim said: "The COVID-19 pandemic that is happening throughout the world, including in Indonesia, has had a huge impact on society. Therefore, we appreciate the opportunity of working together with Citi Indonesia as a collective effort between various parties to be able to overcome this pandemic well."
This is the second donation given by Citi Indonesia for handling COVID-19. Previously, Citi Indonesia and PT. BNP Paribas Asset Management (PT BNP Paribas AM) distributed aid worth IDR500 million which was provided to the Indonesian Red Cross and UNICEF Indonesia.
This donation is a distribution of social funds from the BNP Paribas IDX30 Philanthropic Index Mutual Fund, one of the Mutual Funds with the theme of Social Responsible Investment or SRI managed by PT. BNP Paribas AM.
The funds are then used to support the handling of COVID-19 relief efforts by providing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), health education programs, sanitation, protection and education for children, as well as emergency health services.
In addition, Citi Indonesia employees also had the opportunity to share acts of kindness by donating through HOPE worldwide Indonesia to celebrate the company's annual initiative called Global Community Day.
Globally, Citi and the Citi Foundation have committed to channel more than IDR1 trillion ($ 100 million) in the form of aid to communities and global economic recovery related to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The donation also includes contributions worth more than IDR29 billion ($ 2 million) collected by Citi employees, in which the company also donatated in the same amount. The donation will then be distributed to a number of non-profit organizations/Non-Governmental Organizations, including the United Nations Development Program, the International Rescue Committee, as well as the International Organization for Migration and Direct Relief.
