GARUT, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia Minister of Tourism Arief Yahya wants to set Garut Regency, West Java, as a world-class tourism destination.

When opening the Cangkuang Temple Digital Tourism Market in the Situ Cangkuang attraction site, Leles District, Garut Regency, West Java, Arief said Garut has the potential to become a world-class tourism destination. Moreover, this district has a number of leading tourist destinations, including Situ Bagendit, Dayeuh Manggung, and Situ Cangkuang.

"Situ Bagendit will be revitalized and reorganized to become a world-class destination," he said.

Government support will also be given to make Garut a world-class tourism destination. A budget of IDR 100 billion from the Indonesia Ministry of Public Works and People's Housing, and IDR 30 billion from the West Java regional government is allocated to Situ Bagendit. Meanwhile, Situ Cangkuang will get budget allocation of IDR 7 billion.

"We hope to actualize the plan by 2024," Arief Yahya said on Wednesday (04/09/2019)

The Tourism Minister was accompanied by the Regent of Garut Rudy Gunawan, and Member of the House of Representatives Commission X Ferdiansyah on the occasion. Arief explained that Garut has great tourism potential, including natural, cultural, and artificial attractions. Tourism stakeholders and especially millennial youth must jointly advance the region's tourism potential.

"There are 123 attraction events, but only one is included in 100 Wonder Events. We hope that in the future millennials will aggressively promote tourism events so that events included in the national calendar increase and are known throughout the country and abroad," he said.

Member of the House of Representatives Commission X Ferdiansyah from West Java Electoral District (Garut Regency, Tasikmalaya Regency, and Tasikmalaya City) said, the progress of Garut tourism has been felt by increasing the average length of stay of tourists to reach 2.44 days.

In the future, by having world-class destinations, it is expected that the length of stay of tourists will be longer and people's income from tourism will increase.

"I propose that the Garut Regency Government also improve the quality of superior HR in the tourism sector to develop the potential for Garut tourism," said Ferdiansyah.

Garut Regent Rudy Gunawan reported that Garut Regency already has three digital tourism markets, namely Situ Bagendit, Dayeuh Manggung, and Cangkuang Temple which was launched today by Arief Yahya.

"The existence of this digital tourism market makes it easy for us to promote the potential of tourism in Garut Regency," said Rudy Gunawan.
