JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Anwar Abbas, Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), has urged the public to remain calm and calmly respond to the results of the quick count of the 2019 General Elections

"But what should be used as a basis and reference is the official calculation result from the KPU," Anwar told reporters on Wednesday (04/17/2019).

He said that even though there were certain institutions that conducted quick calculations, the MUI hoped that the community would not make it a basis for declaring which parties won and lost.

The MUI, he said, also appealed to all elements of society to remain calm and always try to maintain the ukhuwah and the existing kinship. It is also important not to do things that can damage unity and unity as a nation.

Anwar invites all elements of society to give time and opportunity to the KPU to be able to work calmly so as to enable the KPU to be able to count the votes properly and accountably.

"The MUI expects the KPU to work professionally, honestly, fairly, transparently and accountably, so that people can accept the results of this election with sincerity and relief," Anwar said.

If after the KPU announces the results of the calculation and there are those who object, he said the MUI appealed for the matter to be resolved through legal channels by submitting a lawsuit in accordance with the provisions in the existing legislation.
