JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COMThe Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued early warnings of the potential for high waves of the range of 2.5 to 4 meters which are expected to occur in the eastern Arafuru Sea and the Indian Ocean west of Lampung to southern Java in the next four days, 15-18 May 2019.

According to BMKG's observation, there is a monitoring of a pattern of low pressure of 1000 hPa in the Coral Sea. While for wind patterns in the northern region of Indonesia generally from Southeast-Southwest with a speed of 3-15 knots, while in the southern region of Indonesia generally from the East-South at a speed of 3-25 knots.

Another supporting factor is the highest wind speed observed in the southern Indian Ocean of Java, and the eastern Arafuru Sea.

According to information obtained by Netralnews, Wednesday (05/15/2019), the potential for high waves does not only occur in these two regions but also has the potential to occur in 27 other Indonesian regions with a lower range of 1.25 to 2.5 meters.

These areas include North Sabang Waters, Sabang Waters - Banda Aceh, West Aceh Waters, Western Waters Kep. Simeulue to Kep. Mentawai, Bengkulu waters - Enggano, Western waters of Lampung, West Indian Ocean Aceh to Bengkulu, South Java waters to Sumba Island, Bali Strait - Lombok - Alas - southern Sape, Sawu Sea, southern waters of P. Rote - Kupang, Sumba Strait the western part, the south Timor Sea NTT, the Indian Ocean south of Bali to NTT, the central to eastern Java Sea, the southern waters of Kalimantan, Kotabaru waters, southern Makassar Selata, Manui waters - Kendari, Kep waters. Wakatobi, southern waters of Banggai - Sula, eastern Flores Sea, south Ambon waters, Banda Sea, Letti waters to Tanimbar, Kep waters. Kei to Aru, and finally the Arafuru Sea to the west to the middle.

BMKG calls on fishermen to be careful and pay attention to shipping safety risks. Some vulnerable modes of transportation include fishing boats with wind speeds of more than 15 knots and wave height above 1.25 m, barges with wind speeds of more than 16 knots and wave height above 1.5 m, ferry boats with wind speeds of more than 21 knots and wave height above 2.5 m, as well as large size vessels such as cargo / cruise ships with wind speeds of more than 27 knots and wave height above 4.0 m.

BMKG warns that people who live and operate on the coast around the area have the possibility of high waves and solid shipping areas to always be vigilant. If a high wave occurs, immediately run away to a higher and safer place.
