KPU Chairman: No Need to Announce Presidential Election Results on May 22

KPU Chairman Arief Budiman (special)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The flow of traffic in front of the Indonesia General Election Commission (KPU) has been closed by the police. On social media, rumors are developing that the KPU will announce the results of vote recapitulation or election winners tonight, Monday (05/20/2019).

However, currently the KPU is still holding voting recapitulation of the 2019 Election to date. 33 provinces have been recapitulated.

Although it did not justify the announcement of the winner of the presidential election, the Chair of the KPU Arief Budiman did not expressly deny. According to him, completing the vote recapitulation and determining the results of the 2019 Election should not be carried out on 22 May.

"It does not have to be on May 22, but until today we are still planning to announce it on May 22 because we have not been able to ascertain what the progress of the recapitulation will be like, then we determine what time it will be finished," Arief told reporters at the KPU Office.

Based on monitoring, the police began to close the road at around 7:30 p.m. local time. The security forces asked residents of no interest to the general election to leave the area.

The police also asked street hawkers who used to hang around the KPU office to move. They stressed that Jalan Imam Bonjol in front of the KPU was sterile.

Not only that, the barbed wire fence is installed on the Diponegoro road to the HI Roundabout. Brimob officers equipped with rifles and tracking dogs were alerted in front of the KPU Office.

The security forces also began to limit the people who used to enter the KPU Office. The people that could be seen in or near the KPU office are KPU employees, police officers, TNI, and media crews inside.

Anyone who enters must pass three checks. The first inspection was outside, visitors were asked to open a jacket and show the contents of the bag.

The second guard was right at the gate of the KPU Office. At this point, visitors will be checked past a metal detector or metal detector. To enter the building, visitors must have a special KPU identity card or press card. Visitors will again be asked to show the contents of the bag and state their needs.
