TNI Chief: TNI Solid in Supporting Polri to Handle Riots

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto has affirmed that TNI would be behind the Indonesia National Police (Polri) in handling the riots that could disrupt national security after riots on Wednesday (5/22/2019) in the morning in a number of areas in Jakarta.

"TNI is solid in supporting the tasks of Polri," the TNI Commander said during a joint press conference at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Politics and Security, Jakarta, Wednesday (05/22/2019).

In addition, TNI has deployed soldiers in four strategic points, comprising of the KPU (General Election Commission) building, Bawaslu building, House of Representatives, and the State Palace. The Commander has instructed the soldiers to take firm action.

"Once again I convey that TNI does not tolerate unconstitutional actions from anyone, especially anarchists. Moreover, once again, it jeopardizes the sovereignty of the country," he stressed.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto added that TNI and Polri remained solid after the Presidential election results announcement to maintain national security.

"TNI and Polri remain solid post-election to secure the national situation," Wiranto said.
