Communications Ministry Uncover 30 Hoax Contents During Protests at Bawaslu (berita)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Communication and Information has uncovered 30 hoaxes spread through 1,932 pages (URL) during the riots that occurred on several streets in Jakarta on 21-22 May 2019.

The information was conveyed by the Director General of Information and Communication Applications at the Ministry of Communication and Information Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Politics, Law and Security, in Jakarta on Saturday.

The duo explained that dozens of hoaxes were spread through 450 Facebook social media accounts, 151 Instagram accounts, 784 Twitter, and one LinkedIn website.

On that occasion, Semuel appealed to the public to immediately delete false news content on their social media accounts.

"People who are now spreading hoaxes are being dropped because law enforcement will be implemented," Samule said, quoted by Antara on Saturday (05/25/2019).

The government restricts social media access and messaging applications on May 22 at 1:00 p.m., following a riot that occurred in several locations in Jakarta.

Restrictions are made to control and anticipate hoax indicated content and utterances of hatred spread through cyberspace.

Since Saturday afternoon, the restriction was officially revoked. The public can return to access social media and messaging applications smoothly since around 13:30 WIB.
