Earthquake of 5.3-Magnitude Shakes Cilacap (antara)

CILACAP, NETRALNEWS.COM - An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter Scale (SR) has rocked Cilacap, Central Java, on Saturday (29/6/2019) afternoon.

Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency of Cilacap Teguh Wardoyo said the earthquake was within 10 kilometers.

"The earthquake that occurred at 13.46 WIB was located at 8.56 south latitude and 108.85 east longitude or 94 kilometers southwest of Cilacap with a depth of 10 kilometers," he said.

Although he felt strong enough to III "Modified Mercalli Intensity" (MMI) in Cilacap, he said the earthquake had no tsunami potential.

He urged citizens to remain calm and not be affected by irresponsible issues.

One of the residents of Cilacap, Muji, said that the earthquake shock was quite strong.

"I happened to be sitting while watching television. Suddenly there was a strong shock which turned out to be an earthquake so I immediately called my wife and children to leave the house," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cilacap Regency Tri Komara Sidhy said it was still monitoring the possibility of the impact of the earthquake.

"Until now there have been no reports related to the impact of the earthquake. Hopefully the earthquake did not cause damage," he said.
