SIDOARJO, NETRALNEWS.COM - Juanda Airport Surabaya Customs and Excise dfficers in Sidoarjo, East Java, have confiscated 76 units of Iphone 11 smart phones from aircraft passengers over the past two weeks.
Head of East Java Customs Office Muhamad Purwantoro said on Thursday that the confiscated goods were brought by passengers from abroad.
"The passengers admitted that the goods they carried were goods owned by others, so they did not go through official regulations," he said during a media meeting in Sidoarjo.
Purwantoro said that according to the rules, each passenger is only allowed to bring a maximum of two goods from abroad, on condition that they must complete the applicable tax forms.
"Now, the case is that the passengers carry the goods beyond the applicable regulations, so that more goods are seized by the state," he said.
He explained that the latest Iphone smart phone has not yet been officially launched in Indonesia, but there are already plenty of these units that are used in the country.
"The price of this smart phone could reach IDR25 million," Purwantoro said.
Purwantoro continued that in addition to the latest Iphone smart phone units, his office also seized several bottles of taxable beverages that were stored in a suitcase.
"For the beverage items according to the maximum one liter rule, we also seize the rest of the goods," he said.
"This is a warning to the passengers so that they obey the rules in force. We guarantee these items are still controlled by the state," Purwantoro said.
