Mount Merapi Erupts Again, Sending Hot Clouds

YOGYAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Center for Investigation and Development of Geological Disaster Technology (BPPTKG) in its Twitter account said that there had been a hot cloud recorded on a seismogram with a duration of 270 seconds and an amplitude of 75 mm. The observed columns reached as high as ± 3,000 m from the summit. The wind blows towards the Southwest.

The eruption accompanied by a hot cloud again occurred in Mount Merapi on Monday (10/14/2019). The eruption occured at 16:30 Indonesian western time, as reported by BPPTKG.

Kasbani, an official from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster (PVMBG), said the danger radius was 3 kilometers from the peak. "Outside this radius, the public can carry out activities as usual. The public is advised to anticipate disruptions due to volcanic ash," said the account.

BPPTKG said the status of Mount Merapi remains oon Alert (Level II). This status has been set on Mount Merapi since May 21, 2018.

The day before, the visual appearance of the mountain showed white solfatara smoke, thin intensity, with a height of 10 Km above the summit. There did not appear to be a lava drop. Ten tremors were also detected.
