JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that on Tuesday (10/29/2019) at 08.04.45 West Indonesian Time, the Mindanao region was rocked by a tectonic earthquake.

BMKG analysis results reported that the earthquake epicenter was located at coordinates 6.84 North Latitude and 125.22 East Latitude, located on land at a depth of 15 km.

"The devastating earthquake in Mindanao Philippines of Mw 6.7 this morning was triggered by an active fault that has not yet been recognized," said Head of Mitigation, Earthquake and Tsunami at BMKG Daryono, on  Tuesday (29/10/2019).

The earthquake was preceded by an opening earthquake on Wednesday (10/16/2019) that was measured at 6.4 Mw. It said there were victims, and dozens of people were injured.

"One child became a victim, more than 24 people were injured. This earthquake was more devastating because it reached the intensity of VII MMI," Daryono said.

Previously, BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center Chief Rahmat Triyono reported, on Tuesday (10/29/2019), at 08.04.45 West Indonesian Time the Mindanao region was rocked by a tectonic earthquake.

By observing the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to local faults. The results of the analysis of the source mechanism show that the earthquake has a sliding mechanism (Strike-Slip).

Rahmat said, the earthquake was felt in Tahuna, Sangihe and Melonguane Regencies, Talaud II-III MMI (Vibration was felt real at home. The vibrations felt as if a truck would pass).
