Ministry of Social Affairs Comments on Social Aid Brokerage Case

Secretary General of the Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs Hartono Laras (kemensos)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Secretary General of the Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs Hartono Laras has revealed the profile and fate of T, an alleged Social Assistance program amid the Covid-19 Pandemic. Hartono said T is a businessman and claims to be a partner of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The Indonesia National Police (Polri) then examined the case. After tracing the suspect, T never had a relationship with the Ministry of Social Affairs.

"In a short period of time, T was arrested, and is still being processed legally. The relevant person is now declared a suspect and the Ministry of Social Affairs explicitly asks Polri to process the case with the existing provisions," Hartono said at a virtual press conference on Thursday (07/30/2020).

Hartono said his office always worked in accordance with the Social Affairs Minister directives, considering the significant budget that is used to distribute the social assistance and aid to people affected by Covid-19. The Ministry of Social Affairs stated that it really carried out the distribution of Social Aid and Social Services programs for communities affected by Covid-19 with transparency, accountability, and not allowing unwanted things to happen.

The steps taken by the Ministry of Social Affairs is to maintain good governance in order to distribute Social Aid. Besides that, there is also supervision, mentoring and collaboration system that is established by various parties.

"So if there are irregularities related to Social Aid, we will take action to cooperate and take action with the Police," he said.

Hartono hopes that there will be a deterrent effect after the arrest of T, both for the perpetrators and for those who are willing to try to commit social deception.

"I think this T case can have a deterrent effect, if someone tries to distort social aid," Hartono stressed.
