JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The plan of the Jakarta Provincial Government to tighten Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) could have broad implications, including the possibility of an increase in the number of affected community groups needing Social Assistance (Bansos).
Indonesia Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P Batubara stated, there is a need for handling the affected communities in the form of social assistance, and it cannot be done in a short time.
"If the decision is to increase social assistance in line with the tightening of the PSBB, then it is not an easy decision, as in-depth study and intense coordination are needed," said the Minister of Social Affairs in Jakarta, on Sunday (09/13/2020).
According to Juliari, there are two important aspects that need to be calculated in relation to the additional social assistance that may be needed, namely determining the target of assistance and also budget readiness. These two aspects require in-depth study and coordination.
"So this can't be sudden. The Ministry of Social Affairs is waiting for President Joko Widodo's direction. If the option is to add social assistance, we are ready. In principle, the Ministry of Social Affairs is ready to carry out the President's direction," he said.
Social Affairs Minister Juliari confirmed that there would be coordination steps with the Jakarta Provincial Government if the President indeed ordered the strengthening of the social safety net program (JPS). "If it is decided there is a need for a new policy, we will coordinate with the local government," he continued.
Until today, the Ministry of Social Affairs has yet to adopt a specific policy, in line with the Jakarta Administration's reimplementation of PSBB measures. "We are still focused on the social assistance that is already running, including the social assistance for basic needs in Jakarta and Greater Jakarta," he continued.
Besides that, Juliari also emphasized that it needs to be clarified first of all, that Jakarta still applies the status of PSBB. This is because the Jakarta PSBB status has not been revoked.
"The one who decides on the status of PSBB is the Ministry of Health. For this reason, the Ministry of Social Affairs is still focusing on social assistance that is already running, including the social assistance for basic needs in Jakarta and Greater Jakarta which will run until December 2020," he explained.
In dealing with the impact of the pandemic, the Ministry of Social Affairs has launched a social assistance program, namely the Presidential Social Assistance package or Social Assistance for Basic Food (BSS) for Jakarta and Greater Jakarta, and Cash Social Assistance (BST) for outside of Greater Jakarta.
The President's assistance for basic food assistance reaches 1.9 million households (KK), in which for Jakarta reaches 1.3 million KK, and Greater Jakarta (an area directly adjacent to Jakarta) reaches 600,000 KK.
The distribution of BSS is set at IDR600,000/KPM/month, starting from April 20 to June 2020. However, at the initial opportunity, the Ministry of Social Affairs concentrated on Jakarta, because the PSBB status in Jakarta was the earliest.
The government decided to add BSS and BST benefits, Namely by extending the distribution duration from July to December 2020 with a duration of 6 months. The BSS value is IDR300,000/KPM/month.
