Social Affairs Ministry Increases Social Aid for Poor Target to 60 Percent

Indonesia Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P. Batubara (kemensos)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs is paying serious attention to improving the Integrated Social Welfare Data (DTKS) starting from the fiscal year of 2021. One of the improvements to the DTKS is to anticipate the expansion of the target of the people with the lowest income to 60%.

Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P Batubara said the Indonesian government will continue the social protection program with a budget of IDR 419.3 trillion. This budget is aimed at accelerating social recovery and supporting gradual reform of the social protection system.

"Improving the quality of the DTKS is included in it, as well as improving the mechanism for distributing social security programs, as well as strengthening monitoring and evaluation," Juliari said in Jakarta, on Tuesday (09/15/2020).

The commitment and seriousness in reforming social protection programs is reflected in a budget allocation of IDR 1,272,504,396,000 to improve the quality of DTKS, which was approved by Commission VIII at the Hearing Meeting yesterday.

"This budget is allocated for two purposes, namely improving the quality of the DTKS and increasing the coverage of DTKS," said Secretary General of the Ministry of Social Affairs Hartono Laras.

In the management of DTKS, for 2021, the Ministry of Social Affairs has set a target for the poor in DTKS to increase to become 60% of the people with the lowest income. "This percentage is equivalent to 41,697,344 households, or 162,003,487 people," Hartono said.

To accelerate this, the Ministry of Social Affairs will start the initial stages of refining DTKS in October 2020. This stage of the process continues through August 2021.

"We will start this October with the procurement of supporting hardware/software for DC/DRC/SIKS and preparation of the DTKS prelist. Then in November it is scheduled to start the process of procuring consultant services and preparing the 2021 DTKS prelist," he said.

The suggestion to improve the DTKS received wide support from all members of Commission VIII. With the good quality of DTKS, it is believed that it will increase the accuracy of aid targeting. Furthermore, gradual reform of the social protection system is very important to support efforts to eradicate extreme poverty in 2024.
