Social Affairs Minister Hopes People with Disabilities Can Help Improve Country (kemensos)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesia Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P Batubara hopes that Indonesia can become a country that is more friendly to people with disabilities. In addition, the Minister of Social Affairs also hopes that people with disabilities will become one of the country's assets and help move Indonesia forward.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Social Affairs at the 2020 Jakarta Marketing Week at the Difability-Friendly SOEs session and the virtual submission of the Indonesian Difabel-Preneur Ambassador Charter, on Wednesday (09/16/2020).

Present as recipients of the Indonesian Difabel-Preneur Ambassador Charter are former First Lady of Indonesia 1999-2001 Sinta Nuriyah Wahid, and Special Staff of the President Angkie Yudistia.

"Ibu Sinta and Angkie are suitable (to receive the award) because they are role models, and not only ambassadors for Indonesian diffable people. Congratulations, I hope the country will be more friendly for people with disabilities and not only be better received, but also become an asset to bring the country to become a better country going forward," Juliari said.

Furthermore, the Minister admitted that the government still has many shortcomings in fulfilling the rights of people with disabilities. However, the Minister is optimistic that this can be fulfilled by cooperating with various parties, and not only the work of the government itself.

The Ministry of Social Affairs also has a hall, assisted by Japan, as well as the availability of modules. From there, the Minister of Social Affairs saw that people with disabilities could work in businesses, in government works that did not require high mobility.

"Some kind of affirmation should also be given to people with disabilities. Timing must also be considered due of the current conditions," explained the Minister of Social Affairs.

The Minister of Social Affairs also touched on Presidential Regulation Number 68 of 2020 on the National Commission for Disabilities, which will become a partner of the Ministry of Social Affairs in hopes of creating better welfare with disabilities. The committee is also expected to add and ensure public facilities and accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.

"In terms of law, (fulfillment of the rights of disabled people) is close to the Ministry of Social Affairs. But talking about public facilities and those used daily, many are in the Ministry of Public Works and People's Housing, and the Ministry of Transportation," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

On the same occasion, Angkie was proud to receive an award. For Angkie, it is a mandate to support friends with disabilities to move forward and be able to become independent entrepreneurs.

Not only that, Sinta also admitted that until now people with disabilities have received less attention from the government. Primary needs, such as accessibility, have not been seen everywhere.

"I hope that this event will raise a lot of humanitarian activists and concern for people with disabilities in order to have the same rights as other Indonesian citizens," she hoped.
