Social Affairs Ministry Maintains Quality and Delivery of Social Assistance

Secretary General at the Ministry of Social Affairs Hartono Laras (kemensos)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesia Ministry of Social Affairs ensures that social assistance in the form of basic food and rice aid that are distributed to communities affected by the pandemic fulfills the existing regulations. This is in line with President Joko Widodo's direction through Minister of Social Affairs Juliari P Batubara.

For this reason, the Ministry of Social Affairs monitors, admonishes, and conducts other effective measures to ensure that food and rice aid packages for people affected by the pandemic can be distributed quickly to beneficiary receivers (KPM), and are of the right quality amd and rice.

However, this is not easy, as the target of social aid KPMs reaches tens of millions. Nonetheless, the Ministry of Social Affairs is committed and, takes real action to ensure that social assistance is delivered on time, on quality, and on price.

"The Basic Staple Food Social Aid (BSS) amounts to 1.9 million KPMs. The Rice Social Aid targets 10 million KPMs. So, if one or two there may be a problem in the social aid actualization. However, we make sure there is monitoring to ensure that social assistance can be right on target, on quality, and right on price before, during, and after evaluation of program implementation," said Secretary General at the Ministry of Social Affairs Hartono Laras in Jakarta, on Thursday (10/29/2020).

The Secretary General stated that he received various inputs related to the distribution of basic food assistance, both in terms of quality and price.

"We have followed up on this. There were food aid items of a different quality, and immediately the vendor was replaced at that time. There is also hands-on test, and likewise with rice. And we do not hesitate to reprimand or sanction non-committed vendors if the type of goods can indeed be different brands or goods. However, prices and types are the same or equivalent," said the Secretary General.

He also mentioned the existence of various information developing in the community. One opinion developed in the media states that the price of a basic food package is not IDR300,000 but IDR270,000.

The Secretary General confirmed that the value of each BSS package is IDR300,000. The contents of foodstuffs in one BSS package is worth IDR270,000. Then, the price of goodie bags and transporters reaches IDR30,000.

"Yes, these basic food packages need to be packaged so that they are easy to distribute. Then, for this, transportation costs also arise. So it is certain that the cost for one BSS package is IDR300,000," he said.

The Ministry of Social Affairs needs to explain this because there is information circulating among the public that the price of each Basic Food Social Assistance (BSS) package is not IDR 300,000, but IDR270,000. "I confirm, this information is not true," Hartono Laras said.
