Social Affairs Ministry Responds Quickly to Aid Sumedang Landslide Victims (kemsos)

SUMEDANG, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs has acted quickly to help the landslide victims in the Cihanjuang Village area, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency, West Java.

In synergy with other elements of disaster management, the Ministry of Social Affairs, through the Disaster Preparedness Youth (Tagana), moved together to evacuate landslide victims shortly after the disaster occurred on Saturday (01/09/2020).

As it is known, two landslides occurred in Cihanjuang, at 16:00 local time, and another subsequent landslide at 19:30.

The Ministry of Social Affairs, through the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA), has taken four important steps.

"Since the disaster occurred, we, through Tagana, have coordinated with the Social Service offices in areas affected by landslides on handling activities and observing the current situation," said PSKBA Director Syafii Nasution in Sumedang, on Sunday (01/10/2021).

The next step is to mobilize Tagana and elements of Disaster Preparedness Village (KSB) to collect data on victims, evacuate victims to safe places, especially vulnerable groups consisting of the elderly, children, people with disabilities, and other special groups.

"We also distribute logistics and rice to meet the basic needs of the landslide victims, sourced from the West Java Provincial Social Service Warehouse," Syafii said.

The PSKBA Directorate also activated mobile public kitchen services unit and psychosocial support services based at Cipateuag Elementary School for the preparation of 500 packets of packaged rice.

In addition, the total assistance that has been distributed for disaster management is IDR1,053,703,150, consisting of Emergency Response Logistics Assistance worth IDR 888,671,350, 3,000 Regular Rice packets with a value of IDR31,800,000, and insurance for 11 people with an index of IDR15 million/heir of IDR165,000,000.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs logistical assistance consists of 10 multipurpose family tents, 150 units of velbeds, 1,200 mattresses, 600 mattresses, and 1,000 blankets.

The Landslides occurred in Cihanjung Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency, West Java Province, on Sunday, January 10, 2021 at 15:30 and 19:00 local time.

The disaster was triggered by high intensity rain and long enough duration, resulting in a 30 m high cliff that came crashing down and covering 18 houses of residents and officers who are carrying out the evacuation process in the field.

As quoting data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), 11 people died.
