Social Affairs Ministry Responds Quickly to Aid Flood Victims in Jakarta (kemsos)

JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - The Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs has responded quickly to the conditions of the flood victims in Jakarta. The floods in Indonesia's capital city was attributed to high intensity rain on Friday (2/19/2021) at 23:30 Western Indonesian Time.

The rain caused the Ciliwung River to overflow, and the water intensity kept increasing. It inundated road accesses and citizen settlements in RT 8/RW 9 Kelurahan Jatipadang, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

Until recently, the flood still inundated several houses. There are many citizens who decide to stay in their houses even though their houses are inundated with water, for example the citizens in Gang H Saibun.

There are 153 families that are affected, consisting of 11 infants, 43 kids, 153 adults, 13 elders, and a pregnant woman. With a total of 221 people, the evacuation point is located in RPTRA Sruni Hall which assists the Bhakti Nurul Iman Social Welfare Institution.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has distributed aid which are given directly by Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini in Jatipadang on Saturday (02/20/2021) at 16:00 Western Indonesian Time. 

The aid included 100 units of kids ware, 150 packs of children food, 300 packs of instant food, 100 sheets of blanket, and 100 pieces of folded bed. The aid is worth IDR137,378,550.

For emergency aid, the flood victims need baby supplies and medicines, especially medicines for itching and skin problems.

During the visit, the Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini was accompanied by General Director of Social Rehabilitation Harry Hikmat, Director of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims Rahmat, South Jakarta Deputy Chief of Police, Pasar Minggu Chief of Police, village heads, subdistrict heads, and the neighborhood heads.
