JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Indonesian Minister of National Development Planning (Bappenas) Suharso Monoarfa, accompanied by Secretary of Director General of Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health M. Budi Hidayat, have observed the first phase vaccination for 500 employees in the Ministry of National Development Planning area on Monday (02/22/2021).
The vaccination is planned to be held for five days, from February 22nd to February 26th, with a total target of 2,566 people.
Minister Suharso says that the vaccination is one of Bappenas' efforts to provide protection for all employees and their families from COVID-19.
"Bappenas also tries to prevent the contagion from happening in the big family of Bappenas. We want our workers and their families to be safe. We contribute a prevention action for the society," he said, as quoted from the official website of the Health Ministry.
Suharso explained that the purpose of this vaccination is to support the government in reaching the group herd immunity. The more people who receive vaccination, the more people are protected.
With the total target of 181,5 million people, the government sets a target for Indonesian to reach herd immunity by March 2022.
"If there is no problem, the target is for Indonesia to reach the herd immunity in March next year," he said.
According to him, the calculation refers to the COVID-19 vaccine availability in Indonesia. Now, the number of confirmed vaccines is 428 million, with an additional backup of 15%. The vaccines are planned to be injected to 181,5 million Indonesian.
Suharso wants citizens to keep supporting the national vaccination program as an important part to end the COVID-19 pandemic. His office have ensured the vaccines given are safe and efficacious, since the vaccines have gone through a strict testing which is based on World Health Organization's standards.
"The SinoVac vaccines used for the national vaccination program have no problem. I urge all Indonesians to make this herd immunity successful as soon as possible. I hope that we can overcome this pandemic," he hopes.
