JAKARTA, NETRAL NEWS.COM - The Directorate General of Water Police at the Indonesia National Police (Polri) have seized 6,900 bottles of liquor and 58 packs of illegal cigars at the Port of Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. The smuggling of these goods were uncovered in collaboration with the Customs Office of Jakarta.

"We, together with Jakarta Customs Office, have succeeded in foiling the smuggling of 6,900 bottles of alcoholic drinks and 58 packs of illegal cigars," said an official of the Directorate General of Water Police at Polri in Jakarta.

The illegal goods were transported from Kijang port at Riau Islands to Tanjung Priok Port. The illegal goods are alleged to be distributed to cafes in Jakarta.

According to the police official, the smuggling of goods used a new method where the goods were wrapped in newspaper and put in suitcases. The potential state income loss from these illegal goods is estimated to reach IDR2.5 billion.

Polri had not named any suspects yet in the smuggling of illegal goods, but had examined eight witnesses who are still being examined intensively in relation to the incident.
