Alzheimer is the Fourth Highest Cause of Death in the United States

JAKARTA, NNC - The 2018 International Alzheimer's Conference which is organized by The Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC) calls for encouragement to all governments in the world, including Indonesia to play an active role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and its prevention. This grand conference takes place from July 22-26, 2018 in Chicago, United States (US).

Indonesian neurologist dr. Andreas Harry Sp.S (K), said the appeal was delivered directly by the President and CEO of Chicago's Alzheimer's Association Prof. Harry Johns at the opening ceremony at the first plenary conference that is participated by neurologists from all over the world.

"We must encourage the government to play an active role in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and its prevention," said Andreas Harry.

On the occasion it was also mentioned that the US have 5.5 million people suffering with Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and has become a major health problem. It is rated as the number four leading cause of death in the country. 

A prevalence of 30-40 percent occurring in the 65-year-old population group (late onset Sporadic Alzheimer Dementia) has tended to occur in the under-age age group (early onset Sporadic AD).

Andreas explained that AD is a very distinct neurological disorder that occurs with impaired cognitive function, behavioral changes, and personality changes.
