PERTH, NETRALNEWS.COM - A 21-year-old woman has an abnormal condition in her abdomen, as doctors have discovered that she had an ovarian cyst weighing four kilograms.

The doctor found the unnamed patient had very large growth so that it filled most of her stomach. The giant lump is not cancerous and measures 24 cm by 23 cm in the woman's body, with a length and width of about nine and a half inches.

Doctors at Royal Perth Hospital in Perth, Australia, reported the extraordinary finding in the journal BMJ Case Reports.

The woman said she suffered from bloating in the last six months, but she did not experience changes in appetite nor bowel movements. The woman also saw no changes in menstruation, and did not have a family history of ovarian cancer.

When the doctor performed an ultrasound scan, the cause of the discomfort was discovered. Their scans showed a dense gray mass taking up almost all of a woman's abdomen, where internal organs are usually seen.

On scanning, the growth of lump was measured 24cm x 23cm x 14cm. Cancer tests restore negative results and medical staff struggle to find out where the cyst grew.

They decided to carry out operations and take out the cyst. When the cyst was removed, the doctors discovered that the cyst had grown from the woman's left ovary.

"A giant cystic mass in the abdomen is rare and requires removal because the symptoms and their complications are related to mass effects," said Dr. Zi Qin Ng who wrote the report, as quoted from the Daily Mail website.

Dr. Zi added, sometimes, a cyst rupture can occur and can cause bleeding and shock as a direct consequence.

"The origin of this giant cystic mass can be confusing and difficult to determine. The recommendation for giant cysts is to remove cysts due to pressure symptoms and cancer risk," the doctor said.
