JAKARTA, NETRALNEWS.COM - Onion may help get rid of baldness. However, the use of red onion juice for hair regrowth has not been widely studied.
One small study published in the Journal of Dermatology shows that applying onion juice to the scalp can help the hair regrowth in some people.
The study involved participants with alopecia areata, an autoimmune hair loss condition that is not scarred and uneven.
Researchers found that hair growth begins after two weeks using onion juice if applied twice a day to the scalp.
Almost 74 percent of participants had hair growth after four weeks, and at six weeks about 87 percent had hair growth. Of men and women participated in the study, hair regrowth found higher among men. Although the study showed positive results, it was only 38 participated.
Causes of Hair Loss
The most common cause of hair loss is hereditary condition called androgenetic alopecia. Other reasons hair loss may develop include certain medical conditions, as a side effect of some medications, and hormonal changes.
Aside from the cause, many people want to do everything to regrow their hair and prevent further loss, and there are some medications that can be used to treat hair loss. One home remedy that may not have been heard by many people is onion juice.
